In
2008 the spa resort of Bad Neuenahr celebrates its 150th anniversary. On
28 July 1858 the two mineral springs discovered in the Ahr valley some
20km south of Bonn were christened Augusta and Viktoria by Princess (later
Empress) Augusta herself. Elegant Bad Neuenahr, just outside the
medieval gates of Ahrweiler in the Ahr valley, rapidly developed into a
centre for the spa visitors of the day.

Neuenahr welcomes a royal guest - Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn
from Thailand visited the Ahr valley

her two day visit to Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, Thai princess Maha Chakri
Sirindhorn also visited the Health- and Wellness-Resort "Symphony
of the Senses" in the heart of spa town Bad Neuenahr. General
manager Rainer Mertel took the honorable guest on a tour through the
thermal bathing house and explained to her the particularities of a
modern spa in today's Germany. The 52-year-old princess was a very alert
and interested listener. She is known to use her travels to widen her
knowledge and then apply it for the benefit of her country.

Forest mountains surround the town on three sides, offering ideal
protection from bitter winds, but simultaneously providing fresh, clean
air on a daily basis. To the west of the town lies the broad, sunny
Rhine Valley. It funnels warm air from the south allowing spring in
Baden-Baden to always have a head start. As the last remnants of snow
are melting on the surrounding Black Forest peaks, the gardens in
